Q1. What sort of people use SCOTDIC ?

A: Color chips (textile standard colors) of the SCOTDIC color system are widely used as color tools by fashion color professionals including apparel/textile planning designers and those people working in marketing room, dyeing plant, and editorial department of fashion color information magazines. Used for color selection or arrangement in designing work, various color jobs, for instance, effective control of dyeing data such as CCM index colors in the dyeing sector. Also, in a group where the same SCOTDIC is used, (6-digit) SCOTDIC color codes are transferred accurately and quickly by FAX or E mail.

Q2. In what points do the color chips differ from paper color chips ?

A: SCOTDIC color chips are all made of dyed textile fabrics. As compared with paper color chips, differences are in color (textile by dyestaff and paper by ink) and in touch. Though textile and paper color chips look alike, textile has in it an element that cannot be distinguished without use of color chips in textile merchandise planning and color control.

Q4. What is Munsell used for SCOTDIC ?

A: A color notation system also adopted in Japanese Industrial Standard (JIS). Worked out by an American artist named A.H.Munsell, it is a very easy-to-comprehend color system, in which colors are sorted by HUE, VALUE, and CHROMA (3 properties of colors). At present, a revised edition of Munsell Color System is used extensively in many fields where colors are of consequence. * SCOTDIC arranges colors on the basis of the revised Munsell Color System.

Q5. Can color chips of SCOTDIC be supplied to make up for deficiency ?

A: All standard SCOTDIC color chips can be supplied. For polyester color chips (2468 colors), cotton color chips (2038 colors), and wool color chips (1115 colors) used in the material versions, color chips can be supplied in required size and quantity at need. * For detail, refer to SCOTDIC Color Chip Service.

Q6. In what sizes are color chips supplied ?

A: Color chips are 1.5 x 4 cm (minimum) ` 20 x 50 cm (maximum). Ordinary color chips are of fabrics only but those with backside tack-sealed by the sizing process are also available. Q7. Why are there numbers bearing no color chips in pages of a ring book ?

A: At the time a standard color is determined for issuance of SCOTDIC, colors not selected remain blank-numbered. The blank-numbered colors are not provided with color chips and no color chips can be supplied to the numbers.

Q8. How are the SCOTDIC code numbers given ?

A: Of the 6-digit SCOTDIC code, the first 2 digits represent HUE, the second 2 digits VALUE, and the third 2 digits CHROMA (three prioperties). You may get the rough image of a color by simply checking the code number. * SCOTDIC Code No.

Q9. No fading of colors of color chips ?

A: Dyed color fades according to the lapse of time like in the case of perishable foods. Provided that SCOTDIC is used in an air-conditioned room, expected duration of use is about 3 - 5 years. Care should be taken that exposure to the direct rays of the sun, chemicals, gases, etc. may cause the color chips to fade earlier.

Q10. Are there no more than 3 types of materials for color chips ?

A: 3 types of materials (polyester, cotton, wool) are used to make color chips. These are reresentative kinds of textile and are applicable to diverse textile plans. At present we contemplate using no other kinds of textile fabrics for color chips.

Q11. Is there any personal-computer software based on SCOTDIC ?

A: We manufacture and sell color picker and recipe (design software for designation of color), color information arranging and searching system, and other serviceable software.

Q12. Is there any SCOTDIC planning color information ?

A. Some external and internal fashion color information magazines and market information magazines have adopted SCOTDIC color code numbers for notation of their colors.
